S&P Global to Acquire Majority Stake in African Agency Agusto & Co.

S&P Global has entered an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Agusto & Co., a prominent credit rating agency operating across Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ghana. The deal aims to bolster S&P’s footprint in African debt markets by merging its global analytical resources with the firm’s established regional expertise.

The partnership is positioned to enhance credit transparency and foster market development across the continent. According to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings, the move reflects a long-term strategy to support local credit markets through improved investor confidence and more robust analytical dialogue. Following the closing of the transaction, which is expected in the second half of 2026, Agusto & Co. will maintain its status as a separate ratings entity, continuing to issue its own methodologies in compliance with local regulatory standards.

Yinka Adelekan, Managing Director of Agusto & Co., described the acquisition as a milestone that realizes the firm's long-standing vision of aligning with a global leader. With over 4,000 ratings assigned since its inception, Agusto & Co. brings deep knowledge of African macroeconomic environments to the collaboration. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is not expected to have a material impact on S&P Global's financial results.
