Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Sets December 2026 Opening Date

Located on Saadiyat Island, the museum spans 80,000 square metres and features 30 galleries connected by a central atrium and ten sculptural cones reaching up to 88 metres in height. These architectural elements are designed to serve both as aesthetic landmarks and functional components, providing natural ventilation and shade. The facility includes 11,600 square metres of interior gallery space alongside 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition areas, marking a significant addition to the Guggenheim’s international constellation of museums.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism, described the museum as a defining moment in the emirate’s cultural trajectory, emphasizing its role as a bridge between diverse societies. The institution’s collection, which has been in development since 2009, focuses on art since the 1960s. Rather than following a linear chronology, the curatorial approach prioritizes interconnected themes such as language, storytelling, and popular culture. Dr. Mariët Westermann, Director and CEO of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, noted that the museum seeks to offer a unique perspective by centering its narrative in the region while maintaining a global scope.
