The Viper, a vertical-takeoff platform developed by the Huntington Beach-based Mach Industries, is designed to bridge the gap between heavy-duty strike systems and tactical precision weapons. At the Rūdininkai training grounds in Lithuania, the Viper autonomous strike platform took to the sky before military officials from the Baltic states. The demonstration during the VANGUARD 2026 exercise highlighted a shift toward integrating high-precision, long-range unmanned systems into NATO’s eastern flank defense infrastructure.
CEO Ethan Thornton stated that the platform’s development draws directly from lessons observed in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. By focusing on scalable tools, the company aims to provide partners with the means to deter regional aggression. The exercise served as a testing ground for 15 international companies, with results later reviewed by defense representatives from nations including Sweden, Japan, and Israel at a U.S. Embassy event. Beyond immediate military utility, Lithuanian Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas emphasized that such collaborations foster deeper research and manufacturing ties between domestic firms and NATO allies.
