Tesla Secures Massive Renewable Power Deal with ContourGlobal

Tesla has locked in a long-term power purchase agreement with independent producer ContourGlobal, securing 90% of the output from the upcoming Project Sterling. This hybrid solar and battery facility, expected to generate one terawatt-hour annually, marks a significant expansion of Tesla’s renewable energy infrastructure for its California operations.

Tesla Secures Massive Renewable Power Deal with ContourGlobal

The project serves as a cornerstone for ContourGlobal’s growth, representing the largest renewable installation in its current portfolio. Designed with 509 megawatts of peak solar generation paired with 360 megawatts of battery storage, the site bridges the gap between raw generation and grid-scale reliability. The facility maintains direct transmission rights to access California’s independent system operator via the Western Area Power Administration grid.

ContourGlobal acquired the development-stage project in December 2024. Following the finalization of this agreement, the company expects to break ground in 2026. If the development timeline holds, the plant will reach commercial operations by 2028, providing a consistent flow of clean energy to support Tesla’s power needs.
