The residency program, a cornerstone of the More in Common Alliance (MiCA) established by Morehouse and CommonSpirit Health, focuses on diversifying the medical field by training providers from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Hospital President Christine McSweeney noted that the initiative aims to bridge critical gaps in healthcare access while fostering a new generation of skilled, compassionate physicians. The inaugural class, which began their training in July 2024, is scheduled to graduate in June 2027.

Dominican Hospital Expands Physician Ranks Through Morehouse Partnership
Twenty-four medical residents have now entered the clinical ranks at Dignity Health—Dominican Hospital since the launch of its partnership with the Morehouse School of Medicine. The recent White Coat Ceremony marked the start of a new cohort’s three-year training program in Santa Cruz, emphasizing culturally competent care.
Beyond this residency track, Dominican Hospital is actively bolstering its clinical staff to meet rising community demands. The facility plans to integrate 10 additional physicians specializing in family medicine, OB/GYN, and hospitalist roles over the coming months. This expansion is part of a broader recruitment effort within the nonprofit Dignity Health network, which oversees 29 acute care hospitals across California.
