Marshmellow Overcoat Blends Classic Roots on Beat a Dead Horse
A guitar melody drafted over a year became a final goodbye for Tyler Calkins, anchoring the new album Beat a Dead Horse. Recorded in Buffalo, the project captures the Pennsylvania band’s signature fusion of sixties-era songwriting and modern rock, serving as both a personal catharsis and a regional touring centerpiece.
The full album features contributions from bandmates Dave Verbocy, Alan Hancock, and Anthony Cavallaro. Sessions took place across GCR Audio and Mammoth Recording Studio, with final production handled by Brad Lauchert, Michael Bridges, and Joey Bastian. Beyond the studio, the band is committing to its roots; during a recent performance at the Kids and Cancer Benefit in Bradford, the group pledged half of its merchandise and album proceeds to the cause. The album is currently available on all digital platforms, as well as on vinyl and CD.
