Sherman signed a lease with Hill Management Services for a storefront within the 200,000-square-foot outdoor center at the intersection of Maryland Route 85 and Crestwood Boulevard. The shop, which will feature the brand's signature açai, pitaya, and coconut bowls, is scheduled to open in December. This follows the success of his existing location at Clemson Corner, with a third site already planned for Urbana in the first quarter of next year.

Playa Bowls Expands Frederick Footprint to Westview Promenade
Gene Sherman, a former fitness franchise owner, is bringing a new Playa Bowls location to the Westview Promenade in Frederick, Maryland. The 1,226-square-foot space marks his second expansion in the county, signaling a broader strategy to capitalize on local demand for nutrition-focused dining options.

The expansion reflects Sherman’s pivot from the fitness industry to health-conscious food retail. Citing a growing consumer rejection of processed ingredients, he noted that the demographic profile of the Westview Promenade—anchored by MOM’s Organic Market and Regal Westview Cinema—aligns with his target market. Danielle Beyrodt, COO of Hill Management Services, noted that the arrival of the franchise adds a critical healthy food component to the center’s existing retail mix. Beyond Frederick, Sherman is currently scouting additional sites in Carroll and Washington counties to continue his regional growth.
