Hung Family Donation Brings Advanced 3T MRI to Long Beach Medical Center

Hung Family Donation Brings Advanced 3T MRI to Long Beach Medical Center

The 3T MRI system delivers a significantly stronger signal than traditional 1.5T models, enabling radiologists to identify subtle tissue changes, tiny blood vessels, and ligament abnormalities that often remain undetected by standard imaging. Beyond diagnostic precision, the machine offers a patient-centric design featuring a wider table, reduced scan noise, and accelerated processing times, which collectively improve the experience for those undergoing complex neurological or orthopedic evaluations.

Nirav Patel, a neurologist at the MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute, noted that the increased detail allows for more confident assessments of complex conditions, facilitating faster transitions to necessary treatment. The new equipment integrates into the campus's existing suite of diagnostic tools, supporting multidisciplinary collaboration across the heart, vascular, orthopedic, and cancer institutes. This investment marks another milestone in the Hung family’s long-standing philanthropic support for the campus, following their previous contributions to the hybrid cardiovascular operating suite.
