His campaign for the 9th Congressional District centers on a platform of working-class advocacy, contrasting his background with Cohen’s long-standing tenure in Washington. Justice Democrats explicitly criticized the 76-year-old incumbent, alleging that his reliance on corporate political action committees and perceived absenteeism have fostered political cynicism among his constituents.

The endorsement comes as Memphis faces the prospect of federal intervention, with reports indicating that National Guard troops sent by Donald Trump could arrive in the city by week's end. Pearson has positioned himself at the forefront of local opposition to these measures. Beyond the support from Justice Democrats, the candidate has also secured backing from Leaders We Deserve, a group spearheaded by David Hogg, which views Pearson as a necessary generational shift in leadership. Pearson stated he is prepared to align with progressive voices in Congress like Ayanna Pressley and Summer Lee to confront issues including economic inequality and foreign policy, specifically noting his intent to diverge from Cohen’s stance on Israel.
