Military veterans will face fewer hurdles entering the commercial freight industry under the newly unveiled Freedom Haulers initiative. The federal program, announced today at the White House, aims to bridge the gap between military service and the supply chain by simplifying licensing processes and expanding training access for transitioning personnel.
Private sector leaders are already reporting success with similar recruitment models. Nathan Meisgeier, president of Werner Enterprises, noted that military-connected staff now comprise 15% of his company’s 14,000-person workforce—triple the national average. Through Freedom Haulers, the administration intends to coordinate federal agencies and private carriers to provide tuition assistance and specialized training for those who did not operate heavy-duty vehicles during their active-duty tenure.
