Ms. Rachel Leverages Massive Social Platform to Back Progressive Slate

With over 5 million followers tuned into her child development videos, Rachel Accurso is stepping into the political arena. The educator known as Ms. Rachel used her Instagram platform on Friday to endorse a dozen progressive candidates, arguing these specific figures are the ones who truly prioritize children's well-being.

Accurso’s list spans the country, backing candidates such as Abdul El-Sayed for Senate in Michigan, Cori Bush in Missouri, and Justin Pearson in Tennessee. Her entry into the electoral fray comes as she frames her support around universal access to healthcare, affordable childcare, and a firm stance against political violence. She explicitly criticized the influence of super PACs and billionaire-funded campaigns, which she argues corrupt the democratic process.

Her endorsements have drawn sharp reactions from political opponents. After Accurso contributed $3,000 to El-Sayed’s campaign, the National Republican Senatorial Committee issued a statement attacking the alignment between the educator and the candidate. Accurso remains undeterred, emphasizing that her advocacy is an extension of her commitment to standing against injustice—a stance she has previously taken regarding the conflict in Gaza, despite facing backlash from right-wing critics. As the primary season heats up, her influence provides a notable boost to a collection of candidates currently navigating contested primaries against both traditional establishment Democrats and Republican opponents.
