Palantir’s Alex Karp labels AI rivals ‘Marxist’ after record quarter

After posting a record $1.1 billion in quarterly profit, Palantir CEO Alex Karp has launched a scathing critique of rival AI labs, accusing them of attempting to seize the means of production from their corporate partners under the guise of moral superiority and revolutionary fervor.

Palantir’s Alex Karp labels AI rivals ‘Marxist’ after record quarter

Karp’s remarks, detailed in a letter to shareholders and expanded upon during a conference call, frame the current AI landscape as a struggle for control over proprietary data. He argued that frontier labs are effectively colonizing enterprises by migrating client know-how into their own models, ultimately building competitive businesses at the expense of the very partners who funded them. For the CEO, this dynamic represents a betrayal of the capitalist ethos, suggesting that these firms are operating with a disregard for the businesses they claim to serve.

Despite the aggressive rhetoric, Palantir is thriving in the current market environment. The company reported $1.9 billion in revenue for its second quarter, a 93% increase compared to the previous year. By positioning its software as model-agnostic and focused on data sovereignty, Palantir is carving out a niche for clients wary of the data-harvesting practices common among major AI developers. While Karp’s language is uniquely confrontational, his underlying warning about the risks of AI labs encroaching on their clients' intellectual property is gaining traction among industry leaders, including Microsoft’s Satya Nadella.
