Marengo Advances TriSTAR Pipeline and Appoints Immunology Lead

Cambridge-based Marengo Therapeutics has nominated its first development candidate under a strategic collaboration with Ipsen, marking a key milestone for its TriSTAR platform. The company concurrently bolstered its leadership team by hiring Saso Cemerski, a veteran expert in T-cell engagement, to head its immunology research efforts.

The nomination follows a partnership established in June 2024, representing the second program from the proprietary TriSTAR platform to reach the stage of IND-enabling development. The TriSTAR technology distinguishes itself from traditional CD3-directed engagers by utilizing a two-in-one mechanism that combines selective T-cell activation with tumor-directed engagement. This approach aims to create highly active memory T cells specifically against solid tumors while avoiding the indiscriminate immune activation often seen in conventional therapies.

Following the candidate nomination, Ipsen will assume responsibility for the program's advancement. To support this growth, Marengo appointed Saso Cemerski, Ph.D., as Senior Vice President and Head of Immunology. Cemerski joins the firm with over 15 years of experience, including a previous tenure as Head of Discovery Immune Cell Engagement at AstraZeneca, where he oversaw global research teams and clinical candidate development. His remit at Marengo includes shaping the company’s scientific strategy and accelerating the expansion of its portfolio of Vβ-directed T-cell therapies.
