Older Consumers Prove Most Loyal to AI Customer Service

The 2026 Parloa Consumer Patience Index reveals a surprising shift in digital behavior: consumers aged 60 and older are more likely to stick with AI-powered customer service than younger cohorts. While younger users express higher initial confidence in automation, older demographics demonstrate greater long-term loyalty once a system proves it can reliably resolve issues.

Older Consumers Prove Most Loyal to AI Customer Service

Nearly 90% of respondents over 60 confirmed they would continue using an automated system that consistently solves their problems, a figure 6.4 points above the average for younger groups. This data challenges the assumption that digital natives are the natural home for AI adoption. Latané Conant, Chief Marketing Officer at Parloa, notes that the group frequently viewed as the hardest to convert becomes the most loyal when technology delivers on its promises.

Confidence levels remain starkly divided, however. While 46.5% of 18- to 29-year-olds express high confidence in AI accuracy, only 16.6% of those 60 and older share that sentiment. The divide widens further regarding anticipation: nearly 86% of young users want proactive AI, compared to roughly 66% of older users. Employment status serves as a stronger predictor of trust than birth year, with a 31-point gap in confidence between full-time workers and retirees. Despite these demographic rifts, the study found a universal threshold for satisfaction: when an automated system successfully handles a request, loyalty remains high across all categories, never dipping below 82%.
