BuzzFeed Faces Revenue Slump as Losses Deepen

Revenue fell to $36.3 million, with the commerce segment suffering the steepest decline at 31%. Advertising revenue dipped 23%, while content revenue saw a more modest 6.5% decrease. These figures arrive following a March going concern warning, which highlighted the company's struggle to meet its outstanding cash obligations.

Byron Allen, who assumed the roles of chief executive and chair after Allen Media Group acquired a majority stake in May, stated that the firm is actively shrinking its overhead. Meanwhile, founder Jonah Peretti has transitioned to the role of president of BuzzFeed AI. Peretti intends to pivot the company away from traditional publishing toward a creator-led model supported by new AI-driven tools, aiming to build a more flexible operating system for its content ecosystem.
