Troy Jackson Accuses Susan Collins of Political Theater Over Blanche Vote

Jackson, the former president of the Maine state Senate, dismissed the Republican incumbent’s move as "weak sauce." He pointed to a commentary from right-wing radio host John Fredericks, who lauded the "savvy" nature of Collins’ team for timing her dissent only after the confirmation of Donald Trump’s former attorney was already guaranteed. Jackson argues that Collins has voted in lockstep with Trump 96% of the time, and only diverges when her vote is functionally meaningless.

The timing of the announcement—coinciding with Senator Bill Cassidy’s confirmation that he would provide the deciding vote—has fueled speculation that the opposition was performative. Jackson is framing this as a pattern of behavior, drawing parallels to Collins’ critical 2018 vote for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. At the time, Collins suggested Kavanaugh would respect the precedent of Roe v. Wade, only for him to later join the majority in overturning it. As the campaign intensifies, Jackson is leveraging these past instances to argue that voters should look past the senator's current political maneuvers.
