California Adults Turn Back-to-School Season Into Career Pivot

This seasonal shift toward personal development is reshaping households across the state. Chasmyne Williams, a mother of three and graduate of the Riverside Medical Assistant program, found that her own academic rigor created a new dynamic at home. When her sons tackled their evening assignments, she sat alongside them to complete her own coursework, turning study time into a shared family experience.

Others are driven by necessity and personal stakes. Savona Wallace, also a Riverside graduate, pursued a career in dental assisting after witnessing her son’s dental health struggles. She graduated with honors and secured a position in the field within weeks of completing her training, effectively bridging the gap between her education and her family's needs. UEI College, which operates campuses from Sacramento to Chula Vista, offers 10-month training tracks in trades ranging from HVAC to medical billing to accommodate these working professionals.

To facilitate this transition, the institution is holding open house events at all locations on August 12 and 13. Prospective students can tour labs and consult with admissions staff between 9 a.m. and noon, or during evening sessions from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
