FM Acquires Wildfire Intelligence Firm FortressFire

Commercial property insurer FM has acquired FortressFire, a technology firm specializing in physics-based wildfire risk modeling. The transaction, for which financial terms remain undisclosed, integrates FortressFire’s proprietary structure-specific intelligence into FM’s engineering-led approach to property loss prevention and risk mitigation for its global policyholders.

FM Acquires Wildfire Intelligence Firm FortressFire

FortressFire operates as an independent, wholly owned division under the FM umbrella. Its platform utilizes a mix of machine learning, thermodynamics, and fire behavior modeling to assess the ignition risk of individual properties. By moving beyond traditional broad-scale risk estimates, the firm provides actionable data including aerial reports, ground inspections, and specific mitigation recommendations. This acquisition unites FortressFire’s granular analytics with FM’s two-century heritage in scientific research and property engineering.

Malcolm Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer of FM, emphasized that the move aligns with the company's commitment to data-driven risk management. Michael Ashker, founder and chief executive officer of FortressFire, noted that the partnership validates the firm's long-standing thesis that rigorous, science-backed ignition prevention is the most effective path to property insurability. FortressFire will continue to serve a broad spectrum of clients, including reinsurers, real estate professionals, and lenders, while maintaining its existing brand and leadership structure.
