Clinical dosimetry results for Radspherin, an alpha radiopharmaceutical designed to treat peritoneal metastases, show that radiation exposure to healthy tissues remains well below established toxicity thresholds. Published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, the study confirms the safety profile observed during initial Phase 1 trials in ovarian and colorectal cancer patients.

The findings, detailed in the article 'Normal Tissue Dosimetry of Intraperitoneal Radium-224-Microparticle Therapy,' analyzed data from nine patients treated at The Norwegian Radium Hospital. Because alpha-particle therapies present unique imaging challenges, researchers utilized a combination of blood sampling and biokinetic modeling to track radiation distribution. The study specifically monitored organs often considered activity-limiting, such as the kidneys and red bone marrow, finding that absorbed doses remained within safe limits.

Caroline Stokke, Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics at Oslo University Hospital, noted that these methods were essential for determining dose-limiting tissues in early-phase development. Oncoinvent’s Chief Medical Officer, Kari Myren, stated that the low exposure levels to healthy organs reinforce the potential of the drug as a viable treatment option for patients with limited alternatives. These results provide a foundation for advancing the clinical development of Radspherin as a targeted post-surgical therapy.
