Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant confirmed the airline is investigating the incident alongside federal law enforcement, emphasizing that aircraft operating systems remained secure throughout the flight. The crew disabled the plane's official Wi-Fi for approximately 30 minutes to mitigate the threat. Pilots reported that the rogue network appeared designed to impersonate official flight infrastructure, potentially targeting travelers returning from cybersecurity conferences held in Las Vegas the previous week.

Setting up such networks requires minimal technical expertise, often involving portable hardware like a Wi-Fi Pineapple. These devices, commonly used by security professionals for penetration testing, can easily intercept or spoof legitimate connections. While the Atlanta Police Department deferred the matter to federal agencies, the FAA stated they had not yet received a formal report regarding the breach.
