Block Blast! joins Apple Arcade to shed its ad-heavy reputation

With over 725 million lifetime installs, the world's most downloaded mobile game is moving behind a subscription paywall. On September 3, Hungry Studio will release an ad-free version of Block Blast! on Apple Arcade, finally answering long-standing player demands to remove the intrusive commercials that plague the free-to-play mobile experience.

Block Blast! joins Apple Arcade to shed its ad-heavy reputation

The shift to Apple Arcade signals a pivot for the puzzle giant as it enters a more mature phase. While the game still boasts 70 million daily active users, download rates have retreated from their late 2024 peak of 50 million per month. By joining the $6.99 monthly service, the developer trades aggressive ad monetization for the steady revenue stream of Apple's ecosystem, effectively rewarding its most loyal fans who previously resorted to closing and reopening the app just to bypass post-loss advertisements.

This transition arrives alongside a broader expansion of the platform, with titles like NFL Retro Bowl ’27 and Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+ also joining the library. For Hungry Studio, the move preserves the title's relevance after a high-profile marketing push at Coachella earlier this year. The ad-free version removes the repetitive friction of the original, transforming a tedious loop of forced video breaks into a seamless experience for the millions still engaging with the game daily.
