Scaling Ambient AI Across the U.S. Veterans Affairs Health System

After securing a $15 million contract in October 2025, Knowtex has successfully scaled its ambient clinical intelligence platform to primary care facilities across 10 Veterans Integrated Service Networks. The deployment marks a significant integration of AI-driven documentation within the VA’s existing electronic health record infrastructure, the Computerized Patient Record System.

The expansion follows a rigorous competitive evaluation where Knowtex outperformed over 150 solutions during the VA’s AI Tech Sprint. Following an initial launch at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, the platform was tested across pilot sites in Dallas, Miami, Loma Linda, and East Orange. By February 2026, the technology reached full national production, covering 79 medical center locations.

A 90-day assessment from the Kansas City site underscored the impact on clinical workflows. All 18 participating providers opted to retain the technology, reporting the recovery of one to two hours of administrative time previously spent on after-hours documentation. Patient feedback also signaled improvement, with trust ratings in primary care teams climbing to 95%.

Caroline Zhang, CEO of Knowtex, stated that the project demonstrates the viability of clinical-grade AI within the demanding federal security environment. The company is now utilizing the architecture developed for the VA to expand into specialized fields including oncology, orthopedics, and mental health, moving beyond the primary care setting.
