Google Gemini App Hits One Billion Monthly Active Users

One billion people now engage with Google’s Gemini app every month, marking a rapid ascent for the AI platform. CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed the milestone on X, positioning the service among the company’s elite products that have reached the ten-figure user mark, placing it in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The growth follows a steady rollout across Google’s ecosystem, though this specific tally excludes AI interactions within Search or Workspace. User behavior reveals a strong preference for conversational interaction, with 63% of the audience utilizing the voice feature. Beyond text, the platform has become a visual engine, generating over 150 million images daily.

Accessibility remains a core driver for this expansion, highlighted by 100 million active users on iOS devices alone. This surge arrives on the heels of a strong Q2 2026 earnings report, which noted that daily active users have tripled over the last year. As the company prepares for its upcoming Made by Google event, focus shifts to deeper integration of Gemini-powered features within the Pixel hardware lineup and the deployment of the newly released Gemini 3.5 Flash model for autonomous coding tasks.
