Google unveils $29 Pixel Tag to challenge Apple AirTag

At its Made by Google '26 event, the company debuted the Pixel Tag, a $29 tracking device designed to compete directly with Apple’s AirTag. Leveraging the global Android Find Hub network, the tracker allows users to locate personal items via their smartphones or directly through a connected Pixel Watch.

The Pixel Tag distinguishes itself from its circular competitor through a slimmer, oval-shaped design. Measuring 1.1 inches wide and 0.2 inches thick, the device provides a lower profile than the 0.31-inch height of the AirTag. Despite the aesthetic shift, the hardware maintains an IP67 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water immersion for up to 30 minutes at one meter.

Functionality mirrors many industry standards, utilizing Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband for precision tracking. A built-in speaker assists in locating items when nearby, and the unit is powered by a standard, user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery, which sustains operation for approximately one year. Notably, the device omits NFC connectivity, focusing instead on integration with the existing Android Find Hub ecosystem.

Consumers can purchase the Pixel Tag starting November 11, 2026. Pricing is set at $29 for a single unit, while a four-pack bundle will retail for $99.
