AGent Energy specializes in a strategy to unlock over 200 gigawatts of dormant energy capacity already sitting behind the meter at commercial, industrial, and institutional sites. By deploying an AI-driven platform, the company aggregates and orchestrates existing backup generators—often found at hospitals, universities, and data centers—to create dispatchable power plants. This equipment typically remains idle, but AGent’s software allows it to respond to grid emergencies within minutes, providing capacity without the need for new construction.

AGent Energy Secures $11M to Turn Idle Infrastructure Into Grid Power
With the U.S. power grid struggling to keep pace with data center expansion and rising demand, Houston-based startup AGent Energy has secured $11 million in Series Seed funding. The capital, co-led by Spero Ventures and MassMutual Ventures, brings the company's total funding to $17 million in just its first year of operation.

The startup is already active in three major North American wholesale markets: PJM, MISO, and ERCOT. CEO Stephanie Hendricks noted that the rapid funding reflects the critical nature of grid reliability. The new infusion of capital will be used to scale the team and expand its reach into the MUSH sector, which encompasses municipalities, schools, and hospitals. Following the deal, Stephen Wemple of Spero Ventures will join the company’s board of directors, while Aram Ouligian of MassMutual Ventures will serve as a board observer.
