New York Auto Show Influence on Buyer Decisions

Eighty percent of visitors at the 2026 New York International Auto Show reported that the event directly influenced their next vehicle purchase. With nearly three-quarters of attendees skipping every other automotive event during the year, the show acts as a primary touchpoint for brands targeting active, in-market consumers.

The findings, detailed in the 2026 Visitor Impact Report, highlight a highly motivated demographic. Data reveals that 38% of those who walked the floor plan to lease or purchase a new car within a year. Among these prospective buyers, 42% expanded their brand consideration lists as a direct result of their attendance. The influence of the venue extends to physical interaction, as 41% of visitors participated in test drives, and over a third of those drivers became more likely to buy the brand they tested.

Mark Schienberg, President of the New York International Auto Show, noted that the event serves as a critical bridge between manufacturers and shoppers who are ready to commit. The effectiveness of this bridge is backed by historical data: 92% of individuals who identified as purchase-ready during the 2025 show followed through on their plans. As the industry prepares for the 2027 exhibition, scheduled for March 26 to April 4, the report reinforces the show's status as a necessary venue for automakers to reach consumers who remain otherwise disconnected from automotive marketing channels.
