Securing your AI accounts: How to spot and stop unauthorized access

Hackers target AI platforms just like any other online service, putting your personal data at risk. Whether you use ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity, identifying suspicious activity early is critical. By monitoring your active sessions and enforcing security protocols, you can regain control of your account before damage occurs.

Securing your AI accounts: How to spot and stop unauthorized access

For ChatGPT, navigate to Settings, select Security and Login, and review your Active Sessions. If you spot an unrecognized device, you can terminate that specific connection or clear all sessions at once. To reset your password, you must log out entirely and initiate the recovery process via the 'Forgot password' link, which triggers a six-digit verification code sent to your email.

Claude handles security differently by eschewing passwords in favor of magic login links sent to your inbox. To inspect your account, go to Settings and click on Account to view active sessions. You can terminate any unknown entries using the three-dot menu or force a global logout. Because there is no password to reset, clearing these sessions is the primary way to disconnect intruders.

Perplexity takes a more aggressive approach to account management. Since the platform does not provide a list of individual active devices, your only option if you suspect a breach is to sign out of all sessions globally. Once confirmed, you can re-authenticate by entering your email address and using the unique six-digit verification code provided by the service. Regardless of the platform, enabling multi-factor authentication where available remains your most effective defense against unauthorized access.
