Jay's Brush Clearing Adds Remote-Controlled Tractor to Maine Fleet

After realizing his heavy-duty forestry mulcher was too cumbersome for sensitive terrain, South Berwick-based Jay’s Brush Clearing founder Jay Tuttle has acquired a remote-controlled brush hog tractor. The new equipment allows the company to tackle steep slopes and recurring maintenance, bridging the gap between standard mowing and intensive land clearing.

The addition of the brush hog tractor marks a shift in strategy for the firm, which launched earlier in 2026. While forestry mulching remains a core offering for dense overgrowth, the new machine provides a specialized solution for fields, pastures, and overgrown lots that do not require heavy-duty clearing. By offering a lower price point for these sites, Tuttle aims to secure ongoing contracts, returning to properties multiple times a year to prevent vegetation from reverting to brush.

The decision to invest in remote-capable technology stems from specific commercial demands regarding liability and access. Municipalities and commercial clients often seek contractors equipped to handle steep or unstable terrain from a distance, a niche that Tuttle intends to fill as he prepares for company expansion. With more than fifteen jobs already booked for the coming months, over half are slated for the new tractor rather than the forestry mulcher. As the business prepares for a second season, Tuttle plans to hire additional operators by spring 2027 to manage a growing fleet of equipment across southern Maine and New Hampshire.
