HCN Global and Society for Health Communication Launch Health Equity Series

HCN Global is launching the second installment of its "Leadership for a Culture of Health" webinar series, partnering with the Society for Health Communication to tackle systemic barriers in preventive care and maternal health. The program aims to equip community advocates with practical tools to address deep-seated health inequities.

HCN Global and Society for Health Communication Launch Health Equity Series

The new series expands upon HCN Global’s broader "Culture of Health / la Cultura de Salud" initiative, which previously focused on identifying and addressing structural racism. This latest phase shifts toward the practical application of communication strategies to improve outcomes in maternal and reproductive health, as well as access to preventive services for underserved populations. By pairing expert perspectives with actionable frameworks, the webinars target health workers and community leaders operating on the front lines of public health.

Alison Rodden, CEO of HCN Global, emphasized that the objective is to move beyond awareness toward tangible action, providing leaders with the specific language and tools necessary to navigate complex systemic obstacles. The first session, scheduled for August 28, 2026, will address critical barriers including language access, transportation, and immigration-related concerns that frequently impede preventive care. A second session focused on maternal health disparities among Black and Latina mothers will follow in November.

This collaboration leverages SHC’s national network of professionals to amplify reach through platforms like La Red Hispana, Melanin Thriving, and LatinEQUIS. Dana Chomenko, Executive Director of the Society for Health Communication, noted that the initiative is designed to offer members culturally grounded, real-world examples rather than abstract discussions. Participants will have access to on-demand recordings and ongoing resources to facilitate long-term engagement with these health equity issues.
