The stamp design, created by art director Antonio Alcalá with original illustrations by Cannaday Chapman, moves away from the standard black, red, and green palette. It introduces a vibrant aesthetic of lime green, pink, and yellow. The artwork incorporates two essential Kwanzaa symbols: the zawadi (gift) held by the daughter, and the kikombe cha umoja (unity cup) held by the father. These elements reflect the holiday’s focus on community, culture, and the celebration of the first fruits.

USPS Unveils 2026 Kwanzaa Stamp Featuring Father and Daughter
A father and daughter take center stage on the 2026 Kwanzaa stamp, the 11th commemorative issue in a series that began in 1997. The design, unveiled by the U.S. Postal Service, shifts the visual narrative of the pan-African holiday by spotlighting a familial bond through symbolic gifts and the traditional unity cup.

The official first-day-of-issue ceremony is scheduled for September 23 at 12 p.m. ET. The event will take place at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia, during the 111th annual conference of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. As a Forever stamp, it will remain valid for First-Class Mail regardless of future price fluctuations. Attendees are encouraged to register online at the official USPS portal, where collectors can also find information on additional philatelic products.
