FANUC Targets Manufacturing Bottlenecks with 5-Axis Initiative
To combat the inefficiencies of machine-specific programming, FANUC has launched a 5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative. The program tasks builders and software developers with standardizing workflows, moving the industry toward part-specific programming that remains consistent regardless of the underlying hardware used on the shop floor.

Rick Schultz, Executive Director of Aerospace for FANUC America, notes that while FANUC controls have long been the industry standard, many firms fail to leverage modern CNC capabilities. By adopting standardized best practices, shops can transition to a process where a single program functions across multiple machines. To ensure compliance with these new benchmarks, partners are now required to produce a standardized 5-axis evaluation part, verifying that their hardware and software configurations meet the company’s performance requirements for modern, high-speed production.
