Aue, a physician-scientist with a background in hematology and medical oncology, joins the institution as a tenured professor and holder of the Daisy M. Skinner Endowed Chair in Cancer Immunology. His mandate involves overseeing the Mary and Bill Henrich Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit at the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital. Beyond clinical leadership, he will serve as chief of the Section of Cellular Therapies and co-director of the Cellular Therapy Research Center.

Georg Aue Tapped to Lead Stem Cell Program at UT Health San Antonio
After more than two decades at the National Institutes of Health, blood cancer expert Georg Aue has been named the inaugural director of the Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at the Mays Cancer Center, a strategic move to bring advanced, lifesaving treatments directly to patients across South Texas.
During his tenure at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Aue managed roughly 150 clinical trials and contributed to research that paved the way for FDA-approved stem cell therapies. Lei Zheng, executive director of the Mays Cancer Center, noted that Aue’s arrival is expected to accelerate the expansion of innovative treatment options for complex diseases. The program, developed with the support of the Zachry Corporation, aims to bridge the gap between high-level research and local patient care, ensuring that specialized oncology services remain accessible within the region.
