Lanny Davis Accuses SEC of Weaponizing Justice Department

Attorney Lanny J. Davis claims the Securities and Exchange Commission is retaliating against Ainet Corp and Deepak Jain by criminalizing a standard contract dispute. Davis argues the agency sought Department of Justice intervention only after an internal report exposed the SEC’s own administrative incompetence regarding a multi-year data security agreement.

The core of the dispute centers on a six-year contract that the SEC repeatedly renewed after performing on-site inspections. According to Davis, the agency cannot dispute that no data was ever compromised during the term of the agreement. The shift toward litigation occurred only after the SEC’s Inspector General published findings criticizing the commission’s oversight of the deal.

Davis characterizes the move as an attempt to distract from institutional embarrassment by weaponizing federal prosecutors against private contractors. He maintains that the government’s sudden pivot to criminal charges in the midst of ongoing civil litigation represents a significant abuse of regulatory authority.
