CEO Darryl White pointed to disciplined execution and record pre-provision, pre-tax earnings across all business segments as evidence of the bank's underlying strength. BMO Financial Group Reports Mixed Third Quarter Results
BMO Financial Group reported a net income of $1.75 billion for the third quarter of 2026, marking a 25% decline from the previous year. This drop was largely attributed to a $962 million goodwill charge linked to the planned divestiture of the bank’s Transportation and Vendor Finance business units.

Credit performance also saw improvement, with the provision for credit losses falling to $722 million from $797 million a year earlier. To bolster shareholder value, the bank declared a fourth-quarter dividend of $1.71 per share and announced plans for a new share repurchase program. As of July 31, 2026, BMO reported a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 13.0%, reflecting a stable capital position amid ongoing efforts to reallocate resources toward long-term growth.
