REGENXBIO Adds Investment Veteran Greg Ciongoli to Board

As the Rockville-based gene therapy developer transitions toward a global commercial operation, REGENXBIO has appointed Greg Ciongoli to its Board of Directors. The move coincides with the departure of long-standing independent directors Jerry Karabelas and Jean Bennett, marking a shift in the company’s strategic leadership profile.

REGENXBIO Adds Investment Veteran Greg Ciongoli to Board

Ciongoli, the founder of Adiumentum Capital Management, brings extensive experience in capital allocation and biotechnology investment to the firm. His background includes a 16-year tenure at The Baupost Group, where he oversaw investments across diverse sectors. Currently, he holds leadership roles at Atara Biotherapeutics and Zymeworks Inc., expertise that REGENXBIO CEO Curran Simpson cited as vital for the company's next phase of growth.

The board reshuffle follows years of service from Karabelas, who joined in 2015, and Bennett, who was appointed in 2021. Chairman Ken Mills credited both outgoing directors with helping stabilize the company during its pivotal development period. For REGENXBIO, the appointment arrives as the company advances a late-stage pipeline, including treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and retinal diseases, aiming to move from a research-focused entity to a commercial-stage powerhouse.
