US Private Sector Hiring Gains Momentum in Early August

U.S. private employers added an average of 11,750 jobs per week for the period ending August 8, 2026, marking the second consecutive week of increased hiring activity. The data, captured by the NER Pulse, reflects a modest recovery in recruitment velocity after a mid-summer cooling trend.

The latest figures from ADP Research indicate a steady rise in weekly hiring, climbing from 9,500 jobs added for the week ending August 1 to 11,750 by August 8. This four-week moving average provides a high-frequency look at labor market shifts, though ADP officials note these preliminary estimates are subject to revision as additional payroll data is processed.

The NER Pulse relies on a two-week reporting lag to ensure seasonal adjustments remain accurate. This metric serves as a companion to the monthly National Employment Report, which is developed alongside the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. The next update is scheduled for release on September 8, 2026.
