Michter’s Retains Top Spot as World’s Most Admired Whiskey

For the fourth year running, Louisville-based Michter’s has claimed the number one position on the Drinks International list of the world’s most admired whiskies. The ranking, decided by an academy of global industry experts, reinforces the brand’s dominance during a volatile period for international spirits trade.

The annual survey, which evaluates distilleries across more than 25 countries, has become the industry standard for measuring brand prestige. Shay Waterworth, editor of Drinks International, noted that Michter’s has managed to maintain consistent quality while much of the wider industry faces significant headwinds. He attributed the brand’s sustained success to a level of professional respect that is rarely seen, noting that the distillery consistently draws crowds at trade shows globally.

Michter’s leadership credits this achievement to a production philosophy that prioritizes flavor profile over cost-cutting measures. Executive Vice President Matt Magliocco emphasized that the team focuses on variables within their control, specifically the quality of the liquid and direct engagement with consumers. Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson added that while the underlying chemistry of their process is complex, the goal remains simple: creating products that resonate with drinkers. Currently, the company operates across three Kentucky sites, including its main facility in the Shively section of Louisville and the historic Fort Nelson Building, which serves as a center for education and tastings.
