NAVC Expands VetFolio Platform with Leadership Hires and HLC Endorsement

The North American Veterinary Community is accelerating its global digital strategy by onboarding industry veteran Dr. Katy Nelson and securing a rare endorsement from the Higher Learning Commission. These moves, coupled with the launch of interactive eWorkshops, signal a shift toward specialized, credential-based professional training for veterinary teams.

NAVC Expands VetFolio Platform with Leadership Hires and HLC Endorsement

Dr. Katy Nelson, a veteran with 25 years of experience across clinical practice and media, joins the organization this fall as Senior Director of Veterinary Education and Custom Programs. Working alongside Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Dana Varble, she will focus on forging industry partnerships and tailoring educational content to meet evolving practitioner needs. Her appointment comes as the organization seeks to scale its virtual education platform, VetFolio, beyond North American borders.

To bridge the gap between classroom theory and clinical application, the organization is launching a six-week instructor-led series titled "From Rookie to All-Star." The inaugural program, beginning September 18, provides practice managers with a turnkey operating system designed to improve team retention and competency. This initiative marks a departure from traditional passive learning, aiming to replicate the engagement of in-person events in a remote format.

Quality Benchmarks and Credentialing

Validation of these efforts arrives through the Higher Learning Commission, which has granted the organization its Short-term Credential Provider Endorsement. The designation, awarded to only four other organizations in its initial cohort, follows a rigorous six-week audit of the platform’s assessment methods and content relevance. According to HLC President Barbara Gellman-Danley, the endorsement confirms that the curriculum meets national benchmarks for quality, providing a standardized path for veterinarians, nurses, and support staff to advance their technical skills.
