ExpressRx Deploys In-Home Medication Disposal Across 26 Locations

Every pharmacy counter across ExpressRx’s 26 retail locations now stocks DisposeRx Singles, a move aimed at curbing the risks posed by leftover pills. The partnership pairs accessible disposal packets with targeted patient education, addressing the hidden dangers of accidental poisoning and misuse that persist long after a prescription is filled.

The initiative targets a common household oversight: the accumulation of expired or unused medication. Beyond opioids, these remnants represent a persistent threat to children, pets, and visitors. By integrating these disposal tools directly into the pharmacy experience, staff can initiate safety conversations at the point of purchase rather than waiting for a crisis to occur.

DisposeRx CEO William Simpson emphasizes that pharmacists occupy a unique position as trusted advisors capable of bridging the gap between clinical care and home safety. Each packet provided by the program includes instructions on deactivating medication for safe, legal disposal in household trash. Matt Wilson, Regional Vice President of Pharmacy Operations at ExpressRx, noted that the program is intended to extend the pharmacy's safety mandate into the patient’s home, providing an immediate, affordable solution to a problem that many families ignore until it is too late.
