Partners Group Shares Plummet Following Leadership Shakeup

Shares of the Swiss private-equity firm tumbled 7.7% Tuesday after the company reported a 39% plunge in performance fees and announced a major management transition. The stock, now down 31% for the year, continues to struggle as investor appetite for private markets wanes and redemption pressures mount.

Partners Group Shares Plummet Following Leadership Shakeup

CEO David Layton, who has led the firm since 2021, plans to step down at the start of 2027 to transition into a dedicated investment role as chief investment officer. His successors, Roberto Cagnati and Juri Jenkner, will take the helm as co-chief executives. Both have been with the group since 2004, having overseen core divisions ranging from risk and portfolio solutions to infrastructure and private credit.

Financial results for the first half reflect a challenging environment. Performance income dropped to 216 million Swiss francs, forcing the firm to lower its guidance for 2026. Management now expects performance income to represent 20% to 25% of total revenue, a retreat from the previous target of 25% to 40%. Net profit slid 13% to 502.1 million francs, though assets under management grew to $186 billion. The firm maintains that its exit pipeline remains robust, even as market conditions delay some anticipated realizations until 2027.
