Close brings 32 years of industry experience to the Wellesley-based firm, including his recent tenure as President of Global Ice Cream at Unilever. His arrival follows a period of significant scaling for Island Way, which has tripled its retail footprint since last year. The brand now occupies shelf space in over 15,000 locations, bolstered by exclusive partnerships with major retailers including Target and Sam’s Club.

David Peters, CEO of DC Foods, pointed to Close’s history of managing iconic portfolios as a catalyst for the company’s next phase of development. Currently, the business is targeting increased revenue across the United States and Canada, having recently secured a position on the 2026 Bain & Company Insurgent Brands List. Close, who also serves as a Senior Advisor to Blantyre Capital, will focus on scaling the brand’s signature fruit-based product line while navigating its entry into new global markets.
