Smithsonian Launches Aerospace Video Series for Middle School Classrooms
The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum is bringing its collection to middle schoolers through "On Air," a new educational video series. Launched this September, the project provides teachers with monthly curriculum-aligned content, professional lesson plans, and direct insights into aerospace careers for students in grades five through eight.
To ensure the material remains practical for educators, the series includes a "Teacher Tips" segment. This component guides instructors through lesson implementation, offering classroom activities and extensions that meet national educational standards. Supported by Amazon, Boeing, and the Hexcel Foundation, the entire series is accessible via YouTube and the museum's digital portal. The 2026–2027 academic schedule kicks off with weather in September, followed by the solar system in October and art in November, concluding with a focus on comets and meteors in April.
