Consumer Cellular Launches Connect Care+ for Aging in Place

Consumer Cellular is expanding its SpeakEasy brand with a new connected-care platform, allowing adults 75 and older to share activity and location data with trusted family members. The service integrates directly into existing SpeakEasy devices, aiming to balance individual independence with family oversight without the need for additional monitoring hardware.

Consumer Cellular Launches Connect Care+ for Aging in Place

The service, powered by Smith Micro’s SafePath OS, addresses a growing demographic preference as three-quarters of Americans over 50 express a desire to age in their own homes. By embedding these features into the SpeakEasy Smart and Flip phones, the company bypasses the friction typically associated with secondary wearable devices. CEO Ed Evans emphasized that the system is designed to provide reassurance to families while avoiding a sense of surveillance, placing full control of data sharing in the hands of the primary user.

Functionality includes location tracking, safety area alerts, and a check-in feature that lets users share their status or mood with designated contacts. The package is priced at $34.99 per month, which includes unlimited talk, text, and 5GB of data. While the Smart model offers more robust location history and battery monitoring, the Flip model provides a streamlined experience for those prioritizing traditional controls. Each account allows for up to two trusted contacts, who can monitor activity via a dedicated app on their own smartphones, regardless of their own wireless carrier.
