U.S. Natural Gas Stocks Poised for Sub-Average Weekly Build

U.S. natural gas inventories are expected to grow by 29 billion cubic feet for the week ending August 28, a gain falling short of historical seasonal norms. This projected injection, drawn from a survey of ten market participants, signals a further tightening of the current storage surplus against five-year averages.

U.S. Natural Gas Stocks Poised for Sub-Average Weekly Build

Market estimates for the build range from 21 Bcf to 39 Bcf, centering on the 29 Bcf consensus. Should this figure hold, total underground storage will reach 3,213 Bcf. The anticipated injection is notably smaller than the five-year average of 37 Bcf for this period, a trend that will compress the current storage surplus from 167 Bcf down to 159 Bcf.

Beyond the five-year comparison, the data highlights a widening gap against previous performance. Stocks are expected to sit 51 Bcf below year-earlier levels, a significant shift from the 30 Bcf deficit recorded the prior week. The U.S. Energy Information Administration will release the official inventory figures this Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
