Costco Sales Climb Nearly 10% on Strong August Performance

Costco Wholesale posted a 9.9% surge in sales for August, reaching $23.7 billion as consumer demand remained resilient across its global warehouse network. This performance capped off a robust fourth quarter, with total sales for the period hitting $93.9 billion, representing an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year.

For the four-week period ending August 30, comparable sales rose 8.4% company-wide. Domestic markets led the charge with a 9% gain, while international regions saw a 9.5% increase. Canada trailed slightly with a 4% rise. Digital channels proved particularly effective, driving a 17.9% jump in comparable sales.

Looking at the full fourth quarter, the retailer recorded a 9.4% increase in comparable sales. U.S. stores saw a double-digit rise of 10.7%, supported by a 7% gain internationally and 5% in Canada. When stripping away the volatility of fluctuating gas prices and foreign exchange rates, the underlying growth remained steady at 5.4% for August and 6.7% for the quarter.
