Chainguard Hits 1 Billion Build Manifests as AI Accelerates Cyber Threats

The window for patching vulnerabilities is closing as AI-driven exploits move from discovery to weaponization in mere hours. To counter this, Kirkland-based Chainguard has doubled its production output to 1 billion container build manifests in just six months, aiming to neutralize threats before they reach production environments.

Chainguard Hits 1 Billion Build Manifests as AI Accelerates Cyber Threats

This rapid scaling, powered by the company's Factory 2.0 system, reflects a shift in how software supply chains must defend themselves. By utilizing agentic, AI-powered reconciliation bots, the platform detects drift and resolves dependency conflicts in real time, effectively outpacing the speed at which human attackers operate. The company has expanded its catalog to 3,000 unique container images and 675,000 variants, providing a defensive layer that proactively eliminates vulnerabilities.

According to CTO Matt Moore, the ability to maintain a broad, up-to-date catalog is the only durable defense against modern exploits. Chainguard reports that its automated pipeline has already eliminated 2 million CVEs for its customers, allowing engineering teams at organizations like Elastic to focus on core development rather than constant patching. As the software supply chain becomes a primary target for AI-assisted attacks, the firm’s reliance on automated, self-correcting builds serves as a critical infrastructure layer for enterprises looking to maintain security without sacrificing deployment velocity.
