During his interim tenure, Strum oversaw the rollout of two freestanding emergency departments in Miramar and Pembroke Pines, with a third currently under construction in Hollywood. His leadership also saw the commencement of a $670 million bed tower project at Memorial Regional Hospital and the expansion of the "Better Together" partnership with Broward Health. This collaboration now encompasses oncology, neurosciences, and graduate medical education, aiming to broaden primary and maternal care access across the county.

Shane Strum Confirmed as Permanent CEO of Memorial Healthcare System
After serving two years as interim leader, Shane Strum has been appointed permanent President and CEO of the Memorial Healthcare System. The South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners confirmed the decision following a period of record-breaking financial performance and significant infrastructure expansion across the regional network.

Board Chair Elizabeth Justen cited the organization's strongest financial performance in its 73-year history as a key factor in the board’s unanimous support. A native of Broward County with three decades of experience in public service and healthcare, Strum will maintain his dual role as CEO of both Memorial Healthcare System and Broward Health. Despite the shared leadership, the two systems will continue to operate under independent boards, budgets, and governance structures.
