Since acquiring the company in 2019, Platinum Equity steered De Wave through an industry-wide standstill, during which cruise operators deferred major projects. Under the leadership of Group CEO Riccardo Pompili, who was promoted at the height of the crisis, the firm moved to diversify its technical capabilities and strengthen its executive team. These efforts resulted in record fiscal 2025 performance, with revenue exceeding €400 million and EBITDA surpassing €50 million.

Platinum Equity to Exit Marine Interiors Specialist De Wave Group
After navigating a turbulent pandemic-era cruise market, Platinum Equity has signed a definitive agreement to sell Genoa-based De Wave Group. The transaction, which marks the end of a seven-year ownership period, follows a significant transformation that saw the marine interiors firm double its earnings and expand its global footprint.

Beyond financial growth, the company successfully increased its project pipeline. The current order backlog stands at more than €1 billion, providing sustained visibility for its newbuild and refit operations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. For Platinum Equity, the sale represents a strategic milestone in its European investment portfolio, which continues to include Italian assets such as Fantini Group and Fratelli Polli. While financial terms of the exit remain undisclosed, the transaction is expected to finalize by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approval. De Wave is set to transition to its next phase of growth under new ownership with Renaissance Partners.
