Autoliv Launches Virtual Crash Testing Suite with Toyota
Toyota has become the first partner to integrate Autoliv’s new Human Body Model (HBM) Safety Suite, a digital platform designed to simulate complex crash scenarios. By shifting safety analysis into virtual environments, the Swedish manufacturer aims to identify injury risks earlier in the vehicle development cycle than physical testing allows.
Fabien Dumont, Chief Technology Officer at Autoliv, noted that the transition to virtual environments allows engineers to optimize safety performance before a single prototype is built. While the company intends to maintain physical crash testing as a cornerstone of its process, the HBM suite serves as a high-speed complement that reduces lead times and improves cost efficiency. Following the initial integration with Toyota, Autoliv plans a wider industry rollout of the platform throughout 2026.
