The acquisition leverages Terasat’s reliance on the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) network, which encompasses over 1,300 reference stations across the archipelago. By integrating its own proprietary software with these existing GSI streams, Trimble aims to provide centimeter-level accuracy for industries ranging from construction and geospatial surveying to automotive and IoT applications. By acquiring Terasat Japan, one of the nation's largest virtual reference station providers, Trimble has secured a direct foothold in the Japanese market. The deal grants the Colorado-based technology firm immediate access to a vast network of existing data streams, bypassing the need to build a new infrastructure from scratch.

Jacek Pietruczanis, director of strategic marketing at Trimble, noted that the move is a critical milestone for the company’s global expansion. For Terasat, the transition is expected to be straightforward, as the company’s network has historically utilized Trimble’s Pivot system to deliver its correction data. CEO Mauro Fujii indicated that the merger will allow the Japanese firm to tap into Trimble’s broader global resources while pursuing new market frontiers. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
